Dear PWEA Members,

In just two weeks (13-14 March) Gdańsk will become the centre for exchange of the wind energy industry knowledge and opinions during the 3rd Wind Farm Operators Forum. It became a permanent item on the agenda of industry events. Since 2018 due to partnership with the Polish Wind Energy Association it became the leading O&M event for onshore wind farms in the CEE region.

Day One of the Forum will include sessions on the latest market trends and innovation in wind farm operation and retrofit.

Day Two will open an opportunity to discuss in small groups during workshops held by the top experts in the field (see the Agenda).

WFOF not only comprises papers and workshops, it is a perfect opportunity to establish new business contacts, in particular in the mini-exhibition zone and during the evening event.

The motto of this year’s Forum, “Look Ahead”, is not accidental. After two years of stagnation the industry is starting to think about the future again. The last year’s auctions contracted another 1 thousand MW on top of almost 5.9 thousand MW already operating in Poland. Some of 3 thousand MW of ready-to-build projects may obtain the governmental support under an auction scheduled for the current year; the amendment to the RES Act is expected to be adopted by the Council of Ministers in Q1 2019.

Looking forward to meeting you during this year’s Forum I kindly request you to register.

Soon we will notify you of subsequent wind industry events. There will be plentiful this year. Offshore wind development will be thoroughly discussed, in particular because works on the development of wind farms in the Baltic Sea are gaining momentum. After the technology has been included in strategic governmental documents (for instance the draft Energy Policy of Poland until 2040 and the National Energy and Climate Plan), the national transmission system operator, Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, issued connection conditions for subsequent projects. This is a milestone in the development of the offshore wind potential of the Baltic Sea.

Currently, connection conditions have been issued for projects totalling approximately 7.1 GW, owned by PGE, Polenergia, PKN Orlen and Baltic Trade and Invest – all of them PWEA Members. Congratulations!
