On 5 November, Polenergia SA announced the commencement of construction of Poland’s first wind farm without the support scheme. Szymankowo Wind Farm, with a capacity of 38 MW, will be built in Pomeranian province.
The farm will be located in Miłoradz municipality. Other companies involved in the project will include Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy as supplier of 11 wind turbines for the farm and ERBUD group as contractor. The construction is expected to take two years, so in 2021 the first electricity will most likely be generated by the wind farm, capable of providing energy to 60,000 households.
It is the first wind power project in Poland that does not rely on state support. New solutions are certainly a result of continuously decreasing costs of energy production from wind farms.
Funding of the project is provided by EBRD, mBank and ING Bank Śląski, with a total amount of PLN 107m. The investment is based on project finance formula, ensuring diversification of risks among all stakeholders.
After completion of Szymankowo wind farm, the total capacity of Polenergia’s onshore wind farms will reach 287 MW.
